While Port Crescent State Park offers cabins, cottages, hammock sites, and geodesic domes, spots are very limited and difficult to reserve. At the parks modern campground, however, 142 campsites are available.

Tahquamenon Falls State Park

Sprawled out across 13 miles of largely undeveloped terrain, Tahquamenon Falls State Park offers a natural Michigan winter camping experience like no other.

Upper Falls, the largest of the parks many waterfalls, features a breathtaking 50-foot drop of up to 50,000 gallons per second. To access the falls, 35 miles of hiking trails, and other park amenities, reserve a spot at one of seven park campgrounds.

Taquemonon Falls State Park

This state park is a jewel in Michigans U.P. crown. Known for its amazing and scenic waterfalls, thousands of tourists flock here every year just to see the falls and thousands more stay to camp near the falls.

The state park boasts over forty miles of hiking trails and wooden trestle-style trails built into the landscape for easier foot travel.

If you stay in one of the four campsites in this massive state park, you can choose to stay near one of the Great Lakes, or perch yourself closer to one of the thirteen inland lakes belonging to the park.

Tent camping is standard, but there are a few RV and pop-up camper sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations are highly recommended, especially during the summer when camping is the most popular.

Here are the four campsites within Taquemonon Park:

Camp offices are in two of the four locations, depending on whether you will stay near the upper falls or the lower falls.

A diner and brewery are located near camp 33, if you dont have enough camp provisions and you dont feel like traveling far to get camp groceries or food for the night.

An incredible site to see no matter what time of year, Pictured Rocks is arguably one of the best-known sites in Michigan as well as one of the most visited. Porcupine Mountains State Park

This state park is affectionately referred to by Michiganders as the Porkies.

Tens of thousands of Lake Superior coastline are included in the scenic mountain views of this park, and most of the tent campsites are nestled high up in the mountains. The breathtaking views, the rivers, and Lake Superior itself is what bring the campers here.

If you are the type that likes to rough it, there are 63 backcountry campsites here located off the beaten trail.

Be sure to download a park map and always have it on hand before you enter the park so that you can find your way around. Park ranger stations are present, but they are far between.

Warren Dunes State Park

Warren Dunes State Park, known for its enormous 260-foot-tall dune formation, is a 1,952-acre sandy utopia tucked away in Berrien County.

Warren Dunes State Park offers two major campgrounds a modern campground with 182 sites and a semi-modern campground with 37 sites. A youth group campground offers an additional six sites for eligible parties.

North Higgins Lake State Park

The 449-acre North Higgins Lake State Park is home to three hiking trails, a historic nursery, and CCC Museum a facility that tells the story of over 100,000 men who took on various reforestation projects during the Great Depression.

The parks east and west campgrounds offer 174 campsites in total, and campers are able to stay for up to 15 consecutive nights.

Feel like a winter olympian by trying the luge track at the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex. Its one of only four luge tracks that exist in the United States. It offers the thrill of olympic luge, but with the safety of the participant in mind.
