When investigating campgrounds make sure to do the following:
- Find out how close you are to grocery stores and the nearest hospital.
- Check to see if pets are permitted and if there is a special section for them.
- Take a look at the laundry room to see what it costs, if the machines are in good condition and if there are enough of them to keep you from having problems getting machines.
- Look at the clubhouse to see if its clean and find out about any activities the park provides,
- Do the same for the swimming pool and ask if it is heated,
- Take a close look at the RVs that are parked in the sites. Are they in good shape or run down? Does it appear that too many people are staying year round or mostly are temporary visitors?
- Look at the people who are camping in the park. Are they clean and neat, are they older or younger, do any of them look like they might create problems?
- Test the water. Does it smell and taste OK? Is it well water or city water? Is it sulfur water or regular water?
- Find out how close you are to entertainment venues and restaurants.
If you are going to be staying in an area for a long period of time, it is very important that you learn about these things before you reserve.
There will be some parks that offer less expensive prices that will tempt you, but if they are in the middle of nowhere or are not well maintained, youre not going to be a happy camper!

Since there are no roads or bridges to this island, the Tropic Star ferries passengers to Cayo Costa State Park daily, leaving from Bokeelia on Pine Island. La Costa Island is a fairly large and mostly undeveloped island between North Captiva and Boca Grande. The camping area is right behind the small dunes and just steps from a fantastic crescent-shaped beach. Bring lots of batteries for your camera because you won’t be able to stop taking pictures. Several six-person cabins are also available. None of the sites have electricity or water. Showers and flush toilets are available, as is drinking water. You may find that you have the beach practically all to yourself.

Why Is My Tent Wet
Floridas heavy humidity means condensation will occur even when its not a rainy day. A single-wall tent will likely get wet on the inside. A double-wall tent will be wet on the outside.
Some backpackers carry a pack towel to sponge off the worst of the wet. We pack our tent wet, on the outside of the pack, and start hiking. Take a break when the sun comes out and set it up in the sunshine to dry.

Manatee Springs State Park
Manatee Springs is a very special park. For a very economical nightly rate of $25 a night, we had a large, level site with full hookups.
Within the park, we had many sightings of deer and we saw manatees on two separate occasions.
The Springs are beautiful and you can experience them up close in one of the canoes that are offered for rent. Bikes are also available. If you are hungry, barbeque is sold on site daily. There is very little cell reception in the park, but there is WiFi in the rental area.
Long Key State Recreation Area
Long Key State Recreation Area has sixty campsites overlooking the Atlantic Ocean for tent and RV camping in Long Key State Park. All sites are equipped with electric and water hookups, as well as picnic tables and grills. The recreation area offers three restrooms with hot showers and dump station. Activities include shallow water canoeing, kayaking, and snorkeling. Nature hiking is located on the Golden Orb Trail.

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park
Topsail is one of the nicest state parks we have visited. It is on Santa Rosa Island in a beautiful resort area. We paid $46 a night for an immaculate pull-through shaded site with a concrete slab and full hookups. However, you must book extremely early to snare a spot at this popular park.
A gorgeous, isolated beach is a 3/4 mile walk or a free tram ride away. The tram runs every hour from 9 to 5.
The park and the beach were wonderful, but our weather was not the best. It rained the first full day we were there and it was very cloudy and humid with drizzle the next. But, we enjoyed it because we went to see the movie, 1917, on the first day and some friends drove in from Port St. Joe to visit us on the second day. Overall, our stay at Topsail was very nice.
The Jetty Park Campground
Jetty Park Campground is located in Port Canaveral Florida, where giant cruise ships arrive and depart throughout the day. In addition, submarines can also be spotted docking there. And from the park itself, rocket launches from the Kennedy Space Center and Canaveral Air Force Station can easily be seen.
The Jetty Park Campground has rustic spots with no amenities , semi-improved sites with water and electricity , and improved sites with water, electricity, and sewer . There is a free dump station.
With no reservations at the end of February, we were able to snag a Jetty Park Campground spot with water and electricity, a grill, and a very weathered wooden picnic table. There was plenty of room and it was relatively flat. The beach is gorgeous.

St Petersburg Koa/madeira Beach St Petersburg Fl
Touted as St. Petes hidden jewel, this KOA campground leaves you wanting for nothing. Just minutes from white sandy beaches and nestled along the Pinellas Trail, guests can enjoy games like bocce ball, mini golf, and volleyball. They also feature a pool thats open year-round.

The St Johns River Camp Ground is located a quarter of a mile from the beautiful St. John’s River and offers access to some of the best bass fishing in Lake County. The campground features large and shady campsites for tents, trailer, RVs, and motorhomes, with electricity, water, and sewerage hookups, and has open grills, fire rings, and paved driveways to the sites. The modern, wheelchair accessible restrooms have hot showers, toilets, and washing facilities, and there is a laundromat on site. Rental cabins are also available with fully equipped kitchens, living areas, full bathrooms, and heating and air conditioning, along with screened porches with barbecue grills and fire rings.
