The trees turn shades of yellow and orange and hug the granite Sierra Nevada peaks.
The days are still warm and the nights are cool, making it perfect for hiking, backpacking, stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, boating, fishing, or any other outdoor activity.
If youre not feeling like camping, you have several hotel and cabin options in town.
For camping, Twin Lakes or Lake Mary campgrounds are great options. You can also find free dispersed camp by the Mammoth hot springs.
There are many scenic drives throughout the area to see the fall colors like the Mammoth Scenic Loop of Convict Lake.

Pedernales Falls State Park
Pedernales Falls State Park is in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, just 30 miles outside of Austin. It’s the perfect place to take in the fall foliage while hiking the half-mile Twin Falls Nature Trail or the more challenging six-mile Wolf Mountain Trail. Campsites range from sites with water and electricity to primitive spots.
Gold Head Branch State Park
KEYSTONE HEIGHTS Ancient sand dunes far from the sea with rolling hills and deep ravines populated with springs dominate this 2,000-acre state park developed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, making it one of Floridas first state parks.
Canoe or kayak on Little Lake Johnson, or hike a 5.5-mile section of the Florida National Scenic Trail.
As Florida goes, this is high country.
Three campgrounds offer 74 campsites for tents and RVs. Each site includes a picnic table, grill and water. Electricity is available except at Lakeview sites 57 and 60 through 67.
Each of the three camping areas has a centrally located restroom with hot/cold showers. Dump station available. Pets are allowed in the campgrounds but not in the swimming area or buildings. .

Bon Echo Provincial Park
Beyond the usual hiking, biking, and boating, Bon Echo, about six km north of Cloyne, is home to Mazinaw Rock. This 100 metre high cliff is decorated with more than 260 Indigenous pictographs, which is the largest collection of pictographs in Canada. Bon Echo offers various sites with car and walk-in camping, cabins and soft sided shelters, yurts, RV camping, back-country camping and interior canoe-in and hike-in sites. Youll also find flush toilets, a laundromat and a store. And in Cloyne, which is just seven km away, there are more amenities, as well as groceries, antiques, hunting and fishing gear and a pioneer museum. Bon Echo is open until October 21.

The White Mountain National Forest is brilliant during the fall season. Gentle brooks and soft hillsides complement the multi colored symphony of the season.
