We came from California in a 32′ class C. It was our first time to Cody and my husband, five children and I experienced nothing but the most hospitable and helpful people. There were so many things to do in Cody which the staff informed us all about and, of course, we chose the Rodeo. Our first Rodeo – and what an awesome one at that! Ponderosa seemed to be in a perfect place, a short distance from everything we did. We were also happy to have Pizza Hut walking distance. The on-site store had everything, but most importantly it had my favorite and best fitting shirt I’ve ever owned. Stay here if you can!read less

How Cody Wyoming Became Synonymous With The West

Buffalo Bills vision for Cody was essentially an extension of his traveling show, a tourist town on the edge of the countrys first national park, designed to give Easterners a taste of life on the frontier. He built three magnificent hotels in the area, including the Irma Hotel in downtown Cody. The Irma attracted international attention, even receiving its beautiful cherrywood bar as a gift from Queen Victoria.

Visitors came from all over the country and the world to see Buffalo Bills Old West for themselves on their way to Yellowstone, to stock up for hunting expeditions, and go on guided tours of the region. Buffalo Bill didnt expect Cody to survive on tourism alone, however. He worked with private companies and the federal government to establish mining and oil drilling in the area, as well as the construction of the Buffalo Bill Dam then the highest dam in the country.

Soon, Cody began to grow from a tiny town of 500, when Buffalo Bill first arrived, to a population of 10,000 today. As is often the case with growing, bustling towns, Cody took on a life of its own. Two years after Buffalo Bills death in 1917, an annual memorial rodeo was established called the Cody Stampede. During the Great Depression, the Cody Nite Rodeo was added to the towns entertainment calendar. Ever since, Cody has been known as the Rodeo Capital of the World, with some kind of rodeo show happening every single day of the year.

We had a fantastic time camping at the beautiful riverside camping area. All the staff we met especially Bill and Kim were really nice and went the extra mile to make sure we had a great time. The site they gave us was amazing #110 with the river on one side and a stream on the other. The bathrooms were cleaned daily and were conveniently located. What People Are Saying About Little Ponderosa Rv Park

We stayed here for a week in April and really enjoyed our time. We were arriving late and the host was kind enough to meet us at the end of the road and show us the way in. The site was very private and there was lots of space to let our dogs stretch their legs. It is near the highway and is an easy in and out. We work remotely full-time and had excellent service on our hotspot. No problem with video meetings or streaming. There is a KOA down the road and this spot is definitely much nicer, more private, and way cheaper! We will definitely return when in the area. -B, Google Review

This was a great stop on a national parks trip in the Wyoming area. The campground was less busy than in the national parks. Sites were clean and large. Prices were outstanding compared to other parks near. I would definitely come back here if visiting Yellowstone again. The Dyrt camper Sara S.
