Sweet Spots For Tent Camping

Campground Review – Travelers Rest/North Greenville, SC KOA

Just because you like to rough it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy accommodations with a five-star view. Imagine being snuggled up in your sleeping bag and looking out of your tent at a vista worthy of the Ritz.

Such primo campsites are available at a number of South Carolina’s state parks, and some of them are reserved exclusively for tent campers. The offerings include sites overlooking creeks and lakes from the Upcountry to the Lowcountry. And you won’t pay a premium for the view.

Most of the campsites run between $15 and $30 a night, depending on the season. Walk-in sites can cost as little as $5.

Ready to pack your gear? Here are 10 of the best state park campsites:

Easy Access Camping Along South Carolina’s Highways

Not all camping requires actual campsites or campgrounds, and finding a free place to park your RV for the night doesn’t always mean following a dirt road and a map into the mountains. All along South Carolina’s state highways, you’ll find businesses happy to let you stay the night for free, from Cracker Barrels and Walmarts to gas stations like the Flying J.

Even more opportunities can be found at boat launches and a county park here and there, perfect for those quick overnighters on your way to other camping destinations.

Always be sure to check with management before settling in for the night.

Buck Hall Recreation Area

A part of the Francis Marion National Forest in South Carolina, the Buck Hall Reception Area is a premier location to spend the day relaxing surrounded by natural beauty. Amenities include showers and toilets, designated picnic areas, a basketball court, a boat ramp, campfire rings, a fishing pier, grills, a horseshoe pit, event pavilions, and parking.
