Top 5 Texas State Parks RV Camping

Magnolia Beach is one of the best places to go beach boondocking in Texas.

It is located between Port Lavaca and Port OConnor.

To reach the beach just drive less than half an hour south of Port Lavaca.

The beach area is a mile and a half long and has paved access roads.

Beach camping here is absolutely free all year long.

The best part is that the beach is that the sand is hard-packed and it is really easy to drive here.

From your campsite, you can enjoy amazing views of the Matagorda Bay.

You can set up a few feet from the ocean and just enjoy the ocean breeze.

Fishing and beachcombing for seashells is really popular here.

There is a fishing pier near the south end of the beach and many bait shops nearby.

Magnolia Beach can get cold and windy here in winter and spring, so layer up for the season.

You can also tent camp at Magnolia Beach.

Magnolia Beach does have a 14 day camping limit.

Restrooms and showers are available on site.

Picnic tables are also located on the beach.

This is one of the best places to winter in the country. And the sunrises/sunsets here are gorgeous.

Take everything that you will need including water, ice, food, and firewood.

Or buy the essentials at the camp store before you set up your campsite, especially if its remote.

Most of the beach campsites are far from amenities and stores.

The last thing you want to do is to drive back for something just after you have arrived.

This state park is not far from Austin and San Antonio and it offers tent camping too! You can rent the camping and fishing equipment at the park. They have walk-in tent sites with electricity and water.

Guadalupe River State Park offers so many possibilities, it is just beautiful to start with!

Lost Maples State Natural Area Vanderpool

Visit in fall to see the colors of the forest at their best.

Lost Maples State Natural Area is located in Vanderpool in the Hill Country, just two hours northwest of San Antonio.

Visitors come to Lost Maples during the fall, when the glowing colors of the turning leaves are especially vibrant and you can almost smell the seasons changing. The best time to witness this spectacle is from mid-October through mid-November.

The area is also a fantastic place to go camping. Nature lovers will marvel at the wildlife and the towering rock walls that frame the tranquil Sabinal River. Here, you can enjoy scenic hiking along 10 miles of trails, fishing and swimming in the river, geocaching, birding, and stargazing without the interference of urban light pollution.

You can also visit the nearby towns of Bandera and Utopia, go swimming or fishing in Medina Lake, or check out the wildlife on the Rio Frio Loop of the Great Texas Wildlife Trail.

Youll find over 30 campsites here, each offering water and electricity, and charged at $20 per night plus the park entrance fee. Alternatively, if you want to get far from the crowds, you can backpack to one of six more secluded primitive sites, which cost $10 per night plus the entrance fee.

When to go: Longhorn Cavern State Park remains open 364 days a year . Since the bulk of your time will be spent underground, the weather doesn’t really play a factor in deciding when to visit. Crowds, on the other hand, can be a real drag. So skip school holidays.

This Natural Area is one of the most beautiful places year round, although its definitely busier in autumn when the gorgeous reds, oranges, and yellows come out from the trees.

Close to the Sabinal River, you can take a relaxing lounge by the water, or even cast your hook in and see what you catch. If youre more of a creek person, dont worry, Can Creek is another option for you to head out and see what you can catch.

One thing that is important to know is that there is no cell service up at this area, so if theres something that you need to let others know, be sure that you do it before you head out to start your adventure.

The trails here are magnificent. One of those trails that you can take is a loop that goes along a 2,200-foot cliff! Can you imagine the view from up there?

Fort Boggy State Park

Even though it lies close to Interstate 45, Fort Boggys 1,800 acres comprises one of the state park systems hidden gems. A quiet 15-acre lake fringed with oaks and other trees offers fishing, swimming, and no-wake boating. Hikers and mountain bikers can explore the parks 3.5-mile network of trails. Although Fort Boggy doesnt have a formal drive-in campground for tents and RVs, it does offer five very secluded hike-in tent sites for visitors willing to carry gear a short distance. If you want quiet camping, Fort Boggy delivers. For visitors who want to enjoy the park overnight but arent prepared to hike to a campsite, three new wooden cabins are available for rent. They have air conditioning, a minifridge, and a microwave . Each one has a large, partly screened porch with plenty of comfortable deck furniture. After hiking, boating, or fishing, you can put your feet up in your own private cabin tucked away in the woods.

Palo Duro Rim Rv Campground

This primitive camping site makes the list for two amazing reasons- because the landscape is something out of a movie, and because the temps are unexpectedly cool. You wont find much in the way of water out here near the border but because youre on the rim the temps stay cool and breezy year-round. Enjoy easy access, full hookups, strong cell signal, outdoor activities including a zipline, showers, and more. Sites are around $30 a night.

Climb to the top of the 2,200-foot cliff to take part in stargazing events held on many nights.

Mustang Island State Park And Campground

First and foremost, check with the campground ahead of time to see if there are any available spots. Its important to double-check because campgrounds are occasionally closed due to weather conditions.

The sites are not on the beach they are around 400 yards from the water and separated from the ocean by sand dunes. There are no fire rings at these locations you may campfire on the beach, but not in the campground. It is permitted to cook on the sites grills, though.

Picnic tables, outdoor grills, water hookups, , shade shelters, and bathrooms with showers are all available at Mustang Island State Park and Campground.

This is without a doubt one of the most gorgeous spots you can visit if youre searching for a destination to remember for the rest of your life, and itll just set you back $20 each night!

Corpus Christi has some of the most beautiful beaches you can find in Texas. One of the nicest things about Corpus Christi is the warm sea there are even coconuts on the beach! If youre lucky, you might even see some of the little crabs that inhabit there.

Gooseberry Falls State Park Minnesota

Waterfall enthusiasts should put several of Minnesotas state parks on their list. Gooseberry Falls is just one of the many that dot the shore of Lake Superior and has over 1,600 acres of waterfalls and trails. Davis Mountains State Park

One hundred miles north of Big Bend National Park, Davis Mountains State Park offers more elevated landscapes to explore. The state park represents some of the earliest work of the Civilian Conservation Corps in the state. Many of the CCC projects, like the 39-room Indian Lodge, still operate today inside the park. The Indian Lodge is at the heart of the park and continues to provide a welcoming oasis from the Texas summer sun.

Hiking is one of the most popular activities at Davis Mountain State Park. The 4.5-mile Skyline Drive Trail offers some of the best views of the mountainous environment. A hiking trail at Davis Mountain connects to the nearby Fort Davis National Historic Site. For a great way to cool off, the nearby Balmorhea State Park features one of the largest spring-fed swimming pools in the world.

Davis Mountain State Park is also well regarded for its popular bird blind.

Most parks offer RV camping with both electric and full hookups. Most of the electric-only setups cost $20 per night, with full hookups costing $25 per night. Check-in time is at 2 p.m. and checkout time is at 12 p.m. for campsites. You can view each parks entrance fees on its website. If youre not camping, consider purchasing a Save the Day pass for popular parks so you have guaranteed entry on the day of your visit.

Guests can expect easy access to nearby trails, waterways, and historic sites. Plus, most Texas state parks allow dogs, so you can enjoy your RV camping trip with your furry companion. Generally you can stay for up to 14 consecutive days at a Texas State Park.
