There are plenty of things to do at the park. Canyon climbing and caving are some of the more unique activities. Only experienced cavers are permitted to go spelunking, but cave tours are open to the public. Mountain biking, horseback riding, and over 60 miles of hiking trails are available for those craving a challenge.

The Red Top Mountain State Park campground is operated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. It is located along the banks of Lake Allatoona in Acworth northwest of Atlanta. Campers can bring their own boats or rent them from local marinas. Fishing and swimming are popular activities, as is hiking in the park which features over 15 miles of trails.

Prefer fresh-water fishing? Clarks Hill Lake borders Georgia and South Carolina. The lake is often referred to as Georgias Freshwater Coast because its expansive shoreline spans over 400 miles.
While there isn’t any free camping in this area, there are quite a few Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds that offer primitive campsites, which might be a less expensive alternative to campsites with full-hookups.

The places to stay are grouped based on how far they are from downtown Atlanta. Atlanta is a fairly spread out city, so depending on your reason for visiting Atlanta in an RV, you may want to stay closer to family in a suburb or near tourist sites in a particular part of the city.

Stone Mountain Park Campground Stone Mountain
A perfect introduction to those new to Atlanta camping, Stone Mountain Park offers 400 campsites for tent camping and RVs with various hookups. All sites include a grill, picnic table, and fire pit. Guests can book a Safari Rental Tent, already set up on a concrete platform. For those wanting to try RV camping without the cost outlay of ownership, the park rents six RVs on the lake. Those without pets can stay in one of the yurts located near the bathroom facilities. Just remember to bring sleeping bags and cookware for any of these options. Campsite prices range from $28 to $180, not including the $20 parking fee.
The swimming pool, playground, and sand volleyball courts are sure to please everyone, but dont miss exploring the 3,200-acre Stone Mountain Park with hiking, biking, and fishing. While there, you can buy tickets for the ropes course, mini golf, railroad, and laser light show.

Miles: Georgia International Horse Park
The Georgia International Horse Park has an RV campground with 140 sites with full hookups that are open year-round. The facility also provides bathrooms and showers. RVers can stay here even when there are no events going on at the horse park. This is a location that doesnt show up in many campground directories, but it is a fantastic option for staying on the east side of Atlanta. You must contact them in advance to reserve a space.

Little Ocmulgee State Park And Lodge
Helena, Georgia
Nestled deep in the woods, a week at Little Ocmulgee State Park is a great way to help your family destress from city life.
Your kids will love the private pool and splash pad, while the adults in the family can take in a round of golf or enjoy dinner at the full-service restaurant.
The state park is also home to Little Ocmulgee Lake, a 265-acre lake perfect for swimming, boating, and fishing.
And if your family visits this family friendly campground, they dont have to give up the comforts of home! The parks lodge has 60 rooms available to guests and the grounds also features 10 lakeside cabins.
RV and tent campsites are also available throughout the campground for a more rustic camping experience.
Unicoi State Park Helen
About 90 miles northeast of Atlanta, Unicoi State Park boasts 31 walk-in tent sites and 50 RV sites with partial and full hookups. Prices range from $18 for primitive walk-in tent sites to $80 for double buddy sites, not including the $5 parking pass. If bringing an RV or trailer, visitors must back in as the campground doesnt offer pull-through sites. If you dont have a tent or RV, consider booking a platform in the Squirrels Nest for $15. The raised walk-in shelter provides an open-air sleeping experience for four people with a roof and only one wall. For non-campers, the cottages and lodge provide additional accommodations.
Hike the 2.5-mile trail around Lake Unicoi. Try archery, fishing, paddle boarding, ziplining, or relaxing at the beach. This location offers an excellent base to explore Anna Ruby Falls, the alpine town of Helen, and Vogel State Park.

Jellystone Park, 50 miles west of Atlanta, offers theme weekends and kid-centered activities. If you arent quite ready to camp overnight, purchase a day pass for $20 per person to experience the park until 10pm. Prices start at $45-$75 for campsites and $140-$222 for cabins.

Camping at the High Falls Campground includes access to 97 tent, trailer, and RV sites, not to mention six yurts with lakeside views. Theres a swimming pool thats open during the warmer months and a miniature golf course, as well as seasonal rentals of boats, kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, and aqua cycles. Chattahoochee Bend State Park Newnan
Head to Chattahoochee Bend State Park, less than an hour away near Newnan. Opening in 2011 along five miles of the Chattahoochee River, this 2,900-acre park boasts 38 well-spaced, tent and RV campsites with partial hookups and 12 walk-in tent sites. For something more remote, select one of the paddle-in backcountry tent sites on the river. If camping with other families, consider the Adirondack Camp starting at $75. Each shelter sleeps four people and consists of a roof, three walls, and one completely screened wall. The four shelters surround a common area with a grill, fire ring, and picnic tables. Primitive campsites begin at $11, while RV and tent camping prices range from $17-$28, not including a $5 parking pass.
In addition to kayak and canoe rentals, the park offers fishing, hiking, and mountain biking trails. Popular spots include a butterfly garden near the visitor center, two-story observation tower, and playground. While the general store sells ice and firewood, the closest stores and restaurants are about a 30 minutes away.

The Atlanta Marietta RV Resort is located about 17 miles northwest of Atlanta. The campground is located in a suburban area of Atlanta, with plenty of amenities in the immediate area. At about 30 miles from Macon, this park is secluded enough to be quiet and peaceful while not being too far away from civilization. Visitors can enjoy a pool, six fishing ponds, and beautiful views of the Georgia hills.
Raven Cliff Falls Wilderness Area
Whether you want to hike several miles to a primitive campsite or you prefer to be less than a mile away while still feeling detached, Raven Cliffs Wilderness Area offers plenty of campsites along Dodd Creek north of Atlanta near Cleveland, GA. You can hike the 3.3 miles to Raven Cliffs Falls where youll see the two 400-foot falls cascading from the cliff. There are three campsites that are a short distance from the parking lot, or three primitive campgrounds along the hike. The sites are first-come, first serve. The ambient bubbling of the creek is a natural sound machine that will lull you to sleep.

Red Top Mountain State Park
This popular park is ideal for weekend camping escapes. Located on Lake Allatoona, Red Top Mountain State Park features more than 15 miles of hiking trails, a sandy swimming beach and great fishing. Rent a kayak for a lake paddle or bring your mountain bike to tackle the Muddy Spokes Clubs Iron Hill Trail. The campground includes 36 sites with full hookups and 52 primitive tent sites.
