Located in the Jenny Jump Mountain Range, this location features scenic panoramic views of the Highlands, Great Meadows, and the Kittatinny Mountains. The Summit Trail rises to an elevation of 1,090 feet. This location offers a nice combination of seclusion and the amenities of indoor plumbing.Facilities and Activities: Campsites: There are Twenty-two tent and trailer sites with fire rings, picnic tables, showers and toilets nearby. 2 group sites for up to 25 campers at one, and 40 at second site. 8 shelters with living room and wood burning stove. High Point State Park is a state park straddling the border of Wantage Township and Montague Township in Sussex County, within the Skylands Region of northwestern New Jersey, United States, near the border with New York State and Pennsylvania. The park covers 15,413 acres . Part of the Kittatinny Mountains, the highest point in the state of New Jersey, the aptly named High Point, sits in the northern reaches of the park, at elevation 1,803 feet . Route 23 skirts the park and provides access for visitors from the New Jersey suburbs and from points in New York. The park is administered by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry.
Entrance fees are only charged from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day: $5.00 on weekdays and $10.00 on weekends.
High Point Monument, built at the summit, offers views of farmland and forest, hills and valleys in three states, out to the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, where the Delaware River separates the ridges of New Jersey from those of Pennsylvania. High Point offers trails for hiking and cross-country skiing and areas for camping and fishing.

High Point State Park has all the makings for a memorable trip panoramic views at High Point Monument, ecological diversity at Cedar Swamp, mountain biking, swimming, fishing and more.
You’ll need at least a weekend to sample all that High Point State Park has to offer.
One of the park’s must-do hikes is to High Point Monument , where you have panoramic views of the Pocono and Catskill Mountains, and the Wallkill River Valley. Additionally, there are 50 total miles of trail here, some of which is open to mountain biking, horseback riding, and in the winter, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and more.
Other activities include swimming at Lake Marcia, boating on Sawmill Lake or Steenykill Lake, and fishing.
There are 50 tent sites, located on Sawmill Lake, with access to fire rings, picnic tables, and flush toilets, nearby. The sites are open from April 1 to October 31. You might also opt for one of the two group campsites, two cabins, or group cabin.

Camping In New Jerseys High Point State Park
This fall, I began working on my next guidebook project, the second edition of Best Tent Camping: New Jersey. The first edition of the book was written by Marie Javins, who no longer lives in the Northeast. Given my close proximity to New Jersey, Menasha Ridge Press asked if I would be interested in doing the second edition, to which I happily agreed. I had already done some exploring around New Jersey in my work on the forthcoming Best Hikes of the Appalachian Trail: Mid-Atlantic and knew that, in spite of its population density, there are some nice places to get outdoors and to get away from the crowds.
Revising a guidebook involves a lot of legwork that entails, among other things, updating information about fees, dates, seasons, reservation procedures, campground and site amenities , campground layouts , and the availability of activities in the area. It is amazing the extent to which things change even over a short period of time. The first edition of the book was published in 2005, and so I have a lot to look into.
Also, the new Best Tent Camping series will include photographs in addition to the campground maps that accompanied the profiles in the first editions. So an interesting part of the work involved with creating the second edition is figuring out what sort of photographs can best illustrate a camping experience. All of this means that I am making regular drives over to New Jersey to do the field work for the book.
