Jessie M Honeyman Memorial State Park

With more than 350 campsites available, Jessie M. Honeyman is one of the largest state park campgrounds on the Oregon Coast. Honeyman State Park caters to RV and tent camping and is surrounded by the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Dune enthusiasts and off-highway vehicle riders often fill the campground.

Three freshwater lakes are also within the state park, which are well used by swimmers, anglers, and anyone looking to cool off from the summer sun. No direct trails link Honeyman to the ocean, but outside of snowy-plover-restricted seasons , OHV riders can find their own route to the beach.

Running water and restrooms are available for all overnight users. The state park also provides ample parking and staging areas for OHV riders.

Offering 23 tent sites, eight yurts, two log cabins and 12 RV-hookup sites, the campground at Umpqua Lighthouse State Park is on the smaller size, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in a great camping experience!

Its no wonder this is one of the best-reviewed campsites at the Oregon Coast.

Six of the eight yurts are considered deluxe and come equipped with a refrigerator, sink, microwave, bathroom and shower. As you can imagine, the yurts get reserved quickly so youll need to plan in advance .

This great Oregon campsite sits near Lake Marie, a freshwater lake that offers ample water sport opportunities like swimming, boating and fishing.

Most visitors at this Oregon campground choose to stay here over other campsites because of the proximity to the Umpqua River Lighthouse, a mere stones throw from the campground and a great easy day hike offering panoramic vistas of the Pacific Ocean.

Free Camping In The Deschutes National Forest

While the Deschutes National Forest comprises nearly 2 million acres across four counties in Oregon, much of the best camping can be found west of the Sisters-Bend-LaPine corridor. Camping in the Deschutes ranges from official campgrounds with basic amenities like vault toilets, picnic tables and water spigotssuch as Cold Springs Campground near Sisters and Lava Lake Campground west of Bendto pure boondocking at dispersed sites such as that found along Forest Road 260.

For those with larger RVs who are still looking for that in-the-woods feeling, the popular Harrington Loop Road south of Sisters doesnt disappoint. While a plethora of camping is available in the Deschutes, certain places tend to fill up more quickly than others, and camping south of town, such as that found along Forest Road 9710, is often a better bet than trying to get something more mountainous.

The Steen Mountains Best Rv Camping

While scientific studies show that 107% of all outdoorsy types move to Oregon every day, that doesnt mean that you cant still find some serene camping opportunities far from the fleeting footsteps of long-distance thru-hikers, clapping paddles of the states many river riders, and skid marks left behind by an ever-present stampede of mountain bikers losing elevation.

Enter the Steens, a landscape as far removed from both the craggy, cliff-strewn moisture of the Oregon Coast and forested, volcanic peaks of the Cascades alike. Flaking deserts, all but having completely forgotten the concept of winters precipitation, crackle like old parchment at the feet of mountains cloaked in what growth they can muster.

Still, finding an oasis in this otherwise harsh environment isnt impossible. Page Springs Campground and Willow Creek Hot Springs afford just such accommodations on BLM land. Best Campgrounds Oregon #: Sunset Bay State Park

I loved the ecosystem surrounding this campground. There are great hikes through the coastal forest right from the campground.

Directly across the street is a nice bay to relax at, surf on the right swell, and let the kids run wild. A short drive up the hill takes you to a great viewpoint where you will often be able to spot whales and other wildlife.

The campground also has fantastic ranger programs. Nearby in Bandon has one of the best chocolate shops in the world and the Zoo near Bandon has a baby bear, tiger, and lion cub that you can pet. The only downside here is the weather can be very cold so pack those jackets.

Nehalem Bay State Park

Less than a two-hour drive from all the big-city attractions in Portland, this state park is set upon a four-mile sand spit separating Nehalem Bay from the ocean. More than 260 electrical sites cater to RVs and tent campers at Nehalem Bay. The state park also has the largest selection of yurts on the coast, with 18 available to rent.

Via a short, sandy trail, campers cross a dune to access the beach and ocean from the campground. Restrooms, running water, and showers are all included on-site. Camping reservations are recommended if not required in the summer season.

Just a couple of miles north of the campground, the small town of Manzanita is a great place to buy camping supplies, eat out for a meal, or catch some live music on the weekends.

Nehalem River Dispersedtillamook State Forest

On the way from Portland to the Three Capes area or the Nehalem state parks on the Oregon Coast, youll pass through the Tillamook State Forest. Riddled with campgrounds, its a wonderful place to take a break from driving. So, set up camp at the free Cook Creek Campground, just off the Nehalem River and providing seventeen campsites, and enjoy some typical Oregon forest scenery.

Silver Falls State Park Campground

Silver Falls is the largest state park in Oregon, encompassing over 9,000 acres of land blessed with old-growth forests, a wealth of stunning waterfalls, and 24 miles of walking trails, 14 miles of horse trails, and a 4-mile bike path.

The park is situated in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains and can be reached in under an hour from the state capital of Salem. The highlight for most visitors to the park is the 7.8-mile loop hike on the Trail of Ten Falls, which, as the name suggests, meanders throughout the 9,200-acre state park, passing by and behind and very nearly under multiple towering waterfalls.

The parks campground is a well-appointed and very convenient affair, with 45 sites for tent camping, another 52 with hookups for RVs, hot showers, flushing toilets, potable water, a playground, and an off-leash area for dogs near the visitor center.

Cape Lookout State Park Campground :

This is one of the most popular camping spots on the entire Oregon Coast and one of the reasons why is because like the name suggests , you are right by the coast and theres a lot of space to stay there for your camping needs.

Additionally, you also have hikes, a state park, amenities and more at Cape Lookout State Park campground.

Cape Blanco State Park

Cape Blanco State Park is a beautiful and often blustery campground at the states westernmost point, just north of Port Orford and Humbug Mountain. Picnic tables, water, and showers are available. For horseback riders, theres a seven-mile trail and a huge open riding area horses are also allowed on the beach. Only cabins can be reserved regular sites are first-come, first-served. Campground trails lead down to the beach and to the nearby lighthouse.

Reach it by driving four miles north of Port Orford on U.S. 101, then heading northwest on the park road that continues five miles beyond to the campground.

Free Camping In Oregon In Public Lands

The Bureau of Land Management manages over 16 million acres of public land throughout Oregon and Washington. While some of these areas offer paid developed camping, dispersed camping on public lands is also an option.

Campers may not stay for longer than 14 days within a consecutive 28 day period. After the 14 days are exceeded, campers must move a minimum of 25 miles away to locate a new campsite.
