    Charleston To Savannah Road Trip

Charleston and Savannah are two cities that are fighting for your attention! Like squabbling children who want mommy to listen to them, these two cities have been in a fierce competition for generations. Visiting both of these cities will definitely be a highlight on your East Coast USA road trip.

Charleston is often considered to be the quainter and more intimate alternative to Savannah. Its a small city that hosts some of the most well-preserved Southern architecture in the region. The French Quarter, Magnolia Plantation, Rainbow Row, and Boone Hall are all wonderful examples.

Savannah, on the other hand, is often seen as the larger and more charged of the two cities. As the birthplace of Georgia and a vital economic center for the South, Savannah became much grander and, some locals would argue, more fun than Charleston.

Though Savannah lacks some of the singularly amazing landmarks that Charleston has, it still has that classy Antebellum style that we love about the South.

Savannahs Historical Quarter is one of the largest in the USA and is most well-known for its gorgeous cobblestone streets and large public squares. There are also a lot of historic vacation rentals you can experience in Savannah, Georgia. Taking a walk in Savannah is arguably one of the best things to do on an East Coast road trip.

A ways inland is Atlanta, which is the largest city in Georgia and arguably the cultural capital of the Deep South.

    Hot Springs National Park

Though the smallest national park in America, Hot Springs National Park packs a lot of punch.

The natural baths here have, for over 200 years, provided healing and relaxation to travelers from all over.

However, some of the springs in the park run at an average temperature of 143 degrees Fahrenheit, so we dont recommend jumping into them.

Instead, youll want to head into the heart of downtown Hot Springs where bathhouses were constructed back in the mid-19th century to allow visitors to enjoy the benefits of this world-famous spring water in a cooler and safer way.

    BATHHOUSES

The two most popular bathhouses in Hot Springs are Buckstaff Baths, which has been in operation for over 100 years.

If youre looking for more of a spa-level experience, youll want to head to Quapaw Bathhouse where luxury reigns. Indoor and outdoor spring water pools are available here for the dipping, and theres no doubt youll be in heaven here.

    HIKING

Though the hot springs steal the spotlight of this area, there is some fabulous hiking around in Hot Springs National Park. Over 26 miles of hiking trails provide for some great day-hikes that offer varying levels of difficulty.

    WHERE TO STAY

Just minutes from downtown Hot Springs where relaxation awaits, the Hot Springs National Park KOA is a little slice of heaven. Not to mention that this KOA boasts the best breakfast in the area. You better check it out for yourself!

    The Outer Banks North Carolina

The outer banks is a narrow strip of island off of the coast of North Carolina. A truly unique place to visit, there is something for everyone. Here you can find your peace and quiet or be in the middle of all the action. There are various places to camp on the outer banks, with plenty of spaces for RVs.

On the outer banks, there are all kinds of things to see and do. Out here you will find several breathtaking, still-functioning 1800s-era lighthouses, a golf course, extremely unique restaurants, surf shops, big waves, dolphin tours, wild horses, fishing boats, jet ski rentals, and go-karts/mini golf, just to name a few.

Kitty Hawk, a small community on the Outer Banks, also happens to be the site of the Wright Brothers first flight. Here they honed their piloting skills until they were able to achieve the first powered flight in an aircraft. The site of their actual flight is now a national memorial with a visitors center and all that entails.

Farther south along the island you will enter into protected conservation areas, including Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

Camp here if you want a quieter experience that is more out in the woods. One of the big lighthouses, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, is here as well.

The whole island is basically beach, so you wont be short on coastline to explore and surf.

    First Landing State Park

One of the best places to camp on the East Coast is First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach, VA. First Landing State Park is actually Virginias most visited state park and it is one of the most historical places in Virginia as it is where the first colonists arrived on new land.

This is a wonderful park because you can stay overnight with a variety of options and have beach access and hiking trail access when you wake up. And, youre not far from the main resort area of Virginia Beach, which makes this a prime spot for families camping in Virginia Beach.

At First Landing, you will find over 200 different overnight camping spots. There are three main types of accommodation there camping plots, cabins, and yurts. The plots are perfect for tents and RVs both and the season runs from March until the first weekend of December.

Additionally, you will find 4 yurts inside of First Landing. Available from the first weekend of March until the first weekend of December, this is a great option for those looking to do a bit of glamping and not sleep in a tent.

The cabins are the coziest and most comfortable option and they sleep between 4-6 people. There are merely two of them so reserve early! They are open year-round.

First Landing State Park is a great place for all travelers regardless of whether or not they are local or coming from afar. Some of the best hiking trails in Virginia Beach are located inside of the park.

    Paines Campground Cape Cod Massachusetts

REVIEW: 10 of the Best Camping Gold Coast Sites for ...

Cape Cod is a large peninsula stretching out from mainland Massachusetts. Extremely picturesque and well preserved, Cape Cod is a place frozen in time. That being said, the coastlines are always changing.

Here there is a lot to experience. Cape Cod National Shoreline is a national park that is extremely odd-shaped, covering almost 600 miles of shoreline on the Cape. There are beautiful sand, beautiful towns, and beautiful weather to be had here.

There is also a lot of history. All ships going between Boston and anywhere have had to navigate the shallow sandbars off the Cape, and the sandbars have claimed over 3,000 ships in 300 years of recorded history.

Mt Washington Via Tuckerman Ravine Trail New Hampshire

Mt. Washington is a tourist attraction largely for its accolades its the highest point in New England and its reputed to be the home to the worlds worst weather. Regardless of your stance on the latter, Mt. Washington is a must-hike peak and the summit views are epic just be aware that you wont have solitude! Even though the Tuckerman Ravine trail is fondly referred to as a Disneyland hike thanks to the crowds, this 4,186 feet of gain is no joke. The weather truly can change in a minute, so hikers need to be prepared for anything. In the last push to the summit, be careful to follow the cairns and stay on the trail. This is an easy feat in good weather but if nasty stuff rolls through, staying on-route becomes more sporting.

    Freeman Park North Carolina

If youd rather prefer to camp closer to the beach, then Freeman Park is a nice alternative to Camp Hatteras RV Resort. Its not as facility-filled as Hatteras RV Resort, but its a much better option for beach camping.

The camping sites are located along the dunes, but camping is actually allowed anywhere on the beach. If you want to secure a beach spot though, youll need to get there early in the day. But also keep in mind that on the beach, you wont have access to the facilities that each camping spot is equipped with.

    Relax After The Busy Holidays

From home-cooked dinners and last-minute shopping to gift wrapping and complicated schedules, the holidays are a busy time for most. A post-holiday camping trip is a great way to unwind after months of busy demands.

Camping vacations are all about slowing down, reconnecting with nature and spending time with loved ones on your own schedule. Having an itinerary is a good idea for reservations and budgeting, but nothing is set in stone. You can try new things, take scenic routes and enjoy spur-of-the-moment activities.
