Lake Wissota is a large human-made lake northeast of Chippewa Falls and less than 30 minutes from Eau Claire. The park has secluded campsites and grounds equipped with hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails. As the weather gets warmer in the summer, campers come to Lake Wissota to swim and get active in the water. It gets crowded, but since the lake is huge, youll never feel like other boats are getting too close.

There are 116 wooded campsites to choose from and several showers, flush toilets, and dumping stations available in the park. Other camping amenities include a playground for the kiddos, picnic areas, reservable shelters, and large tent group campsites. Outside of the Wissota Lake State Park, visitors can visit the birthplace of Leinenkugel beer or venture to Eau Claire for a day spent wandering the city.

Devils Lake State Park is tucked away in south-central Wisconsin, about 30 minutes south of the Wisconsin Dells. Its a favorite natural attraction for locals itching to grill out, hike, kayak, swim, and enjoy the unique natural surroundings. Its also a top spot for photographers for the obvious reasons.

There are three different campgrounds in the park for a total of 400 campsites with a mix of electric and non-electric sites. The Northern Lights and Quartzite grounds feature sites with RV electrical hookups and a dump station.

Each campsite has a designated area for parking, a picnic table, a metal fire pit, and enough room to pitch a tent. While none of the sites have shoreline access or views of the lake, theyre all within easy walking distance.

Camping at Devils Lake State Park is extremely popular. Plan ahead, explore your options and make your camping or other lodging reservations well before you arrive.

Devils Lake State Park has three campgrounds with a total of 423 sites that each accommodate a family . There are no longer any first-come-first-serve campsites offered at the park. There are also nine group campsites that can accommodate a total of 240 campers. Group campsites are on the south side. Each campground has different qualities that have made each of them popular with annual campers. There are no campgrounds near or on the shoreline of Devils Lake itself.

Only the Quartzite campground is open for winter camping. Winter and early season campers may not have access to potable water, showers, flush toilets or dump stations.

Mirror Lake State Park

Mirror Lake is best known for its sandstone cliffs and calm waters that perfectly reflect the surrounding natural formations. In the fall, the lake comes alive with vibrant oranges, reds, and yellows and is truly a sight to see.

The state park includes the surrounding woods, where spacious campsites, biking and hiking trails, a swimming-friendly beach, and boat launches welcome plenty of family fun.

The park has three campsites available Sandstone Ridge, Cliffwood, or Bluewater Bay, which can be booked from May through October. A few spot have electric hookups and every site is furnished with a fire ring, picnic table, and sandy tent area.

Sand dunes, beaches, and boardwalk-lined trails are what make the campgrounds at Kohler Andrae State Park one of the most popular places for lake camping in Wisconsin come summer. When people arent soaking up sunshine or out on Lake Michigan, theyre grilling out, exploring the hiking trails, or visiting the nearby attractions in Sheboygan.

The park features modern camp facilities with flush toilets and showers, laundry facilities, a dump station, and picnic shelters. RVs, campers, and tents are all welcomed and, like most Wisconsin state parks, can be booked 11 months in advance. Kohler Andrae is open to campers even in the winter, although some facilities close down during the off-season. Pets are also allowed in the park but must be leashed.

Devils Lake Beach is a public beach located practically next door to us on the northeast shore of Devils Lake. The facilities there include a swimming beach, bath-house, restrooms, and a boat launching area with a handicapped dock.

The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is an exciting destination that attracts thousands of hikers, kayakers, and campers every year. There are no drive-up campsites available. Instead, youll have to hike or kayak to reach the camps either on the mainland or on one of 18 islands

Youll need a camping permit, and reservations are possible, but they can only be made up to 30 days in advance. There are also public and reservable docks if your idea if lake camping in Wisconsin involved sleeping on the water

The best thing to do at the Apostles is to kayak along the islands shores past striking sandstone formations thousands of years old. Since the waters can be rough, make sure you have sea kayaks, not lake kayaks. Devils Lake State Parks campsites were known to run on a first-come, first-serve basis, but recently this state park will allow you to plan ahead, as you can now make reservations! So, if you prefer to plan, this is a perfect option for you!

When visiting Devils Lake State Park, expect summer weekends, holidays, and often even during the week for campsites to be sold out and the park full of campers.

In fact, on peak weekends, you can expect long lines and full lots by 10 am. So bring your patience!

Water Restrooms And Showers

Running water for drinking and other uses at campsites is available at dozens of taps scattered throughout the family and group camp areas. Some water taps include drinking fountains. There are seven running water restroom/shower buildings for use by registered campers in the family campgrounds. Each building has sinks, mirrors, electrical outlets, toilets and individual shower stalls. There is no additional charge for use of showers. There are also non-private showers for swimmers in the Red Oak shelter/concession building. Running water buildings are closed and locked and water taps are turned off from about Oct. 15 to April 15, depending on temperatures. There are no laundry facilities in the park. Laundromats are available in Baraboo.

What Type Of Camping Do They Offer

You can expect to find RV Camping, Pop-up Camping, and Tent Camping at all of these sites! Each site will offer you different things for each type of camping, so plan accordingly.

Only the Quartzite Campground and Northern Lights Campground will offer power and water hookups.

You will find theres a little bit of a journey from each campsite to visit the lake and beach access.

Devils Lake Concession Corporation is a non-profit corporation, incorporated 1963, tasked with operating the gift shops, concession stands, and campground store located within Devils Lake State Park in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Proceeds go to the upkeep and improvement of Wisconsin State Parks.

  • There are four concession buildings operating within Devils Lake State Park: The Chateau and Snack Shack located on the North Shore, the South Shore Concessions located next to the Red Oak Shelter on the South Shore, and the Ice Age Campground Store located between the Northern Lights and Ice Age Campgrounds.
  • Concessions are available daily from May-October at the Chateau, and seasonally at the South Shore Concessions and Campground Store.
