Since this park is in the middle of the Finger Lakes region, it provides a nice jumping off point to visit many of the attractions found throughout the area. This is a family-friendly park, and it has been so since it was opened in 1970 by the same owners who remain in charge today. They strive to give guests a great camping experience that will keep them coming back year after year.

New York State Firewood Regulation
New York State has a regulation that prohibits importing firewood into New York unless is has been heat-treated to kill pests. The regulation also limits the transportation of untreated firewood to less than 50 miles from its source or origin.
- Get your firewood from a local vendor and ask for a receipt or label that lists the firewood’s local source.
- If you choose to transport firewood within New York State:
- It must have a receipt or label that has the firewood’s source or origin listed and it must stay within 50 miles or that source/origin.
- For firewood cut from your own property, you must have a Self-Issued Certificate of Origin and it must be sourced within 50 miles of your destination.
- Only firewood labeled as meeting New York’s heat treatment standards to kill pests may be transported into the state and further than 50 miles from the firewood’s source. This wood should be labeled “certified heat-treated”.

This campground, which is only a short drive away from Syracuse, offers guests a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. There is a beach area that is restricted to everyone but guests of the park and beautiful woodland surroundings. Syracuse-area campgrounds like this one are great for a long weekend getaway.
South Half Of The Green Mountain National Forest

Branch Pond Road: Several sites on this road off of Kelley Stand offer good camping opportunities.
Forest Road 71: This forest road stretches from the old Somerset airfield to the Kelley Stand Road. Campsites can be found in various spots along the way, and along some of the forest roads leading off of Forest Road 71.
Forest Road 74: This forest road is a little less remote than other roadside camping opportunities. Off Vermont Route 9, it dead-ends a couple miles in. Campsites are found unevenly spaced along the way. This area fills up early as its one of most accessible.
Kelley Stand Road: Connects the towns of Arlington to West Wardsboro, traveling along an unpaved forest road. A handful of campsites are avaliable on this road, many of the sites along Roaring Brook are permanetly closed.
Old Job: Off Forest Road 30 there are a few camping opportunities an open area along FR 30, and both an open field area and a site near Lake Brook at the end of FR 30.
Somerset Airfield Campground is a small primitive campground along Forest Road 71. There is a pit-privy and fireplaces in this field camping area. Also popular is Castle Brook Road, near the Deerfield River. This area fills up early, and is known for rowdy crowds but is good if you have a big camper.

Located near the New York towns of East Otto and Otto, camping is allowed at 14 designated sites along Kriedeman Forest Road that are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The sites are marked with a yellow camping disk.
These sites are numbered and have a primitive fire ring. There are no outhouse facilities. Camping for more than three nights or in a group of ten or more requires a permit from a Forest Ranger.
East Otto State Forest covers 1,354 acres. No formal trails exist, but old ski trails and farm roads provide some opportunities for hiking.

1.) Carlton Hill Multiple Use Area
Three miles north of the Village of Warsaw lies the town of Middlebury, home to Carlton Hill Multiple use area. Guests can stay up to three nights without a permit and up to 14 nights with a free permit. Fishing, hunting, trapping, scenic views, bird watching and hiking trails are a few things you can do. 2.) East Otto Forest Campground
It’s about 50 minutes from Buffalo and 20 minutes from Ellicottville where you can stay up to three nights at six to 15 different campsites. This one has more of a rustic charm as your only amenity is a fire ring. There is no water or bathrooms, but that’s what the woods are for bears do it all the time and it is free!
3.) Little Rock City Camp Area
Bike Trails, hiking trails, hunting and rock climbing are a few of the thing to do while you are there. The one to five Campsites come fully loaded with fire ring and picnic table. Located in Salamanca, this is perfect for tent camping, not a lot of space for RV’s or campers.

Where To Set Up Camp
The best place to camp is at designated primitive tent sites. These sites are typically flatter than other areas and have deeper, harder soils more resistant to heavy use and erosion, minimizing the impacts of camping. Many sites have nearby pit privies and rock fire rings.
Campers are encouraged to use designated tent sites. They are often close to trails and provide views of ponds, lakes, streams or rivers. These can be a source of water when properly treated.
All designated primitive tent sites have yellow and black “Camp Here” markers. Many sites on lakes and ponds are identified by a yellow number against a dark brown wooden plaque typically attached to a tree near the water’s edge.

Where Can’t I Camp
Camping is not permitted in state unique areas, wildlife management areas, historical sites or nature preserves, and free backcountry camping is also not available in state parks or in recreation areas within the Catskill and Adirondack Forest Preserve that include developed campgrounds. The Adirondack and Catskill regions are unique inasmuch as they contain state preserve land intermingled with state parks and privately owned land. This is a public park owned by the city of Fulton, which is pretty much the center point between Syracuse and Oswego. The campground sits on Lake Neatahwanta and offers a wonderful scenic landscape with some well-shaded campsites.
