Youll have plenty of privacy here and access to several short hikes and waterfalls within distance from the property. All of the sites are spread among the owners land with plenty of distance between them.

Amenities here include a picnic table, portable fire pit, and grill. The owner also offers a very well-maintained toilet just a short walk away and a spigot if you need potable drinking water.

The host, Curtis, lives on-site and can often be found helping deliver wood to guests or checking in to make sure they have everything they need. You can also pick at his wealth of knowledge of the area to find some of the best Hiking trails or other things to do around.

The Blue Ridge Parkway

There are only two places on the Blue Ridge Parkway to backpack in North Carolina, and theyre both in the Boone Area!

Doughton Park, north of Boone, offers a designated backcountry campground in the beautiful Basin Cove Area. There are numerous sites and a privy. A permit is required, available from the parks developed campground. For a map of the Doughton Park backcountry, go to this Parkway brochure page and choose the download link for Doughton Park.

Its great to camp at the backpack sites, stay a number of days, and hike the large system of spectacular trails that surround the camping area. One such hike reaches isolated Caudill Cabin, a late 1800s cabin built when the area contained a vibrant community . Chimneys and other ruins remain. There is also a nice backcountry campsite in the wilds of Price Park that can be reached on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Sitting shortly outside of Boone, NC is another hidden gem from Hipcamp. This small, 2-tent site is not a drive-up site like many of the others on this list, but we couldnt help but mention it as the walk is only 500-feet.

Enjoy your choice of two different spots on level grass pads where you can pitch your tent, enjoy a fire, and watch the views of the sunset over the nearby mountain range. Grandfather Mountain and dozens of other hikes are just within a 30-minute drive away and the host is helpful if you need firewood or anything else during your stay.

In North Carolinas Appalachian Mountains sits the town of Boone. The town was named after explorer and famed early inhabitant Daniel Boone, who, in the 1700s, camped in the area that in 1872 officially became the community of Boone. Although Daniel Boone is long-gone, visitors can still camp in and around Boone, but, for these modern-day campers, the campsites now have amenities such as showers, game rooms and camp stores.

Dennis Cove Campground Near Watauga Lake

While not right on Watauga Lake, Dennis Cove Campground is part of the Watauga Lake Recreation Zone. Its located a few miles away as the crow flies from the lake and is one of only two Cherokee National Forest campgrounds in the Watauga Lake area.

Located at 2,650 feet and along Laurel Fork Creek, the Dennis Cove Campground is described as secluded, rustic and remote.

The altitude, creek-side location and lush forest surroundings make Dennis Cove particularly desirable during hot summer months, according to a description at Recreation.gov.

Campsites are $10 for single sites and $20 for double sites.

Dennis Cove Campground has 15 single campsites, including two-double campsites. For large parties, its possible to reserve the entire campground for retreats and other events.

Amenities include flush toilets. Each site features a table, fire ring and lantern holder.

The campground is open mid-May to mid-October.

Along with the water activities at nearby Watauga Lake, this campground offers fishing and hiking. Laurel Fork Creek is stocked with rainbow trout below the campground. The creek above the campground is managed as a wild trout stream with browns, rainbows and brooks.

Laurel Fork Trail follows the creek upstream for 8 miles with twenty-six stream crossings.

Located on the shores of Lake Price, Julian Price Campground is a fantastic campground near Boone, North Carolina, where you can play in the water. You can canoe and boat on the lake while children enjoy wading in the mountain streams. Amazing scenery awaits you when you choose to camp at this facility.
