Camping World Holdings Inc. on Friday revealed the 57 Gander Outdoors and Overtons brand locations it plans to keep as part of its acquisition of Gander Mountain, which filed for bankruptcy in March.
At that time of the bankruptcy filing, Gander Mountain put its 160 stores up for sale. Camping World Inc., a subsidiary of Camping World Holdings, alongside a group of liquidation firms, in late April bought the companys assets for about $400 million.
On May 5, 2017, CWI, Inc., an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Camping World, entered into an asset purchase agreement with Gander Mountain. As part of the agreement, Camping World obtained the right to designate any real estate leases for assignment to Camping World or other third parties. Following Camping Worlds successful bid in the bankruptcy process, Marcus Lemonis, Chairman of Camping World Holdings, stated his intention of operating stores with a clear path to profitability and Camping Worlds then current goal to operate seventy or more locations subject to, among other things, the ability to negotiate acceptable lease terms with landlords. The Gander Mountain chain is being converted to Gander Outdoors.

RV shows are also a great place to take short seminars from industry experts on everything from travel destinations to full-time living to picking the right truck to pull a trailer and more. Some seminars are free, some have an additional charge. Check the shows website or Facebook page for information before arriving. ST. PAUL, Minn.—-Gander Outdoors, formerly known as Gander Mountain, will be reopening in the Fort Wayne, Indiana market this spring. Marcus Lemonis, star of CNBC’s The Profit, bought Gander Mountain assets in bankruptcy court in May 2017 and is beginning to reopen many of the chain’s stores to serve customers who are passionate about hunting, fishing, marine and water sports, camping, and active and shooting sports. Gander Outdoors is owned by Camping World Holdings, and will provide outdoor enthusiasts with regionally and seasonally relevant products and services that are competitively priced.
Plans are in place for the long-anticipated and eagerly-awaited Gander Outdoors to open its doors in the Fort Wayne, IN market to the public for the first time in early March to early April. The new location at 6043 Lima Road will introduce more than 70 jobs to the community along with its 31,000 sq. ft. outdoor retail, apparel, supply and service space.

GOSHEN, Ind. Construction is starting on a new recreational vehicle suppliers factory in northern Indiana that comes amid strong sales for the industry thats concentrated in the area.
Genesis Products held a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday for its new $10 million, 200,000-square-foot facility in Goshen.
Genesis President Jon Wenger tells The Elkhart Truth the company will boost its production of laminated panels and interiorchi man pardone components for the RV industry.
The company now has about 525 employees at facilities in Elkhart, Goshen and Virginia. Genesis plans to have 100 workers at the new plant, although some jobs could be shifted from existing factories.
Several thousand people work at RV-related factories in Elkhart County. The Recreational Vehicle Industry Association says nearly 431,000 RVs were shipped last year, up 15 percent from 2015.

How Elkhart Became The Rv Capital Of The World
Today we all know Elkhart, Indiana as the RV Capital of the World. More than 80 percent of global RV production is based throughout the region. That means that if you see an RV rolling down the road anywhere in the world, chances are that it was built with the craftsmanship and dedication of Hoosiers.
But it hasnt always been that way. Before retiring in 2014 as the walking RV encyclopedia for the RV/MH Hall of Fame, I was always asked one question: How did Indiana become the undisputed home for RV manufacturing?
The answer as I describe in my book, The Dumb Things Sold Just Like That is a story of three Hoosiers. Milo Miller, Wilbur Schult and Harold Platt fell in love with trailers in the mid-1930s just like many of us have today, and they decided that because of Northern Indianas workforce, location and automotive heritage, there was no better place to launch their trailer businesses than their own backyards. As Miller, Schult and Platt found success, so did the Hoosiers they employed, many of whom went on to launch their own RV businesses.
As more manufacturers sprung up, that attracted additional suppliers, which in turn attracted more manufacturers. As the Crossroads of America, Indianas location was crucial for manufacturers who needed to quickly ship their trailers across the country with the aid of the regions robust system of railroads, rivers and roads.

Camping World To Close Former Gander Mountain Retail Stores By End Of January
Gander RV will continue as a retail brand under the Camping World portfolio, but many former Gander Mountain outdoor lifestyle locations will close by the end of this month.
The owner of Camping World, who once warned West Marine that he was coming to get you, plans to complete the closure of 27 former outdoor retail stores by the end of January as part of a strategy to focus only on the companys recreational vehicle retail outlets.
Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis, also a television personality on the television show Shark Tank, had acquired the retail stores of Gander Outlet and smaller retail chains in 2017 to pursue an outdoor retail-store strategy that would partially compete with West Marine and Bass Pro Shops.
The company announced in September that it would strategically shift away from stores that cannot sell and service RVs. Camping World reiterated that policy in its , saying it planned to close 32 outdoor lifestyle locations by the end of January. It said the restructuring costs would be about $56 million.
Camping World spent around $100 million buying outdoor retailers in 2017 and 2018. But in the first half of 2019, it sold off many of those assets as the RV business slowed down.

Free Camping In Hoosier National Forest
The US Forest Service permits camping on its public lands in Indiana, free of charge.
The limitations are specifically that you cannot camp for free in established campgrounds and that you must stay within 125 feet of the road. The USFS doesn’t provide maps to these locations however, they’re often clearly marked and with a little exploration, should be easy enough to find. One example is crowd favorite Blackwell Horsecamp, which is primarily aimed at equestrians but has no official rules barring those without their trusty steed from camping there. Fire rings and vault toilets are provided.
Just note that there is a 14-day limitation on camping within the national forest, and before driving down dirt roads, you should have a good handle on how to boondock properly. When looking for free campsites, for example, the first rule of thumb is to find an already established spot so as not to damage the forest you’ve come to enjoy.
